History 7 Lesson 5 World Tour Week 1

This week we looked at the Middle East, Greece, and Africa, so I’m going to give a brief rundown of what we studied about them this week

The Middle East is mostly made up of a lot of small countries, like Israel, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon today, and was somewhat similar in ancient times. The middle east is almost constantly at war, never really having a stable economy.

Africa’s most famous continent is Egypt, and was one of the strongest ancient forces. It had three Kingdom (good) periods, and two Intermediate periods. The Old Kingdom, 1st Intermediate, Middle Kingdom, 2nd Intermediate Kingdom, New Kingdom (or the Golden Age of Egypt), and then it finally fell to Alexander the Great. After Alexander the Ptolemaic dynasty ruled Egypt until it became part of the steadily growing roman empire. Also, the old Kingdom was when most of the pyramids were built. Nubia was also a fairly large civilization, just south of Egypt. It specialized in trading. Axum was the only other civilization we looked at, and not in much detail. I will say that it was on the red sea coast.

I’m actually not going to talk about Greece in this essay, as we didn’t talk a whole lot about it during the world tour. Check out this essay for a little more on Greece.
